Parents for School Choice

Perhaps the time has

finally come for help to be available to parents who wish to send their children

to yeshivahs or other non-public schools? Recently, 300 interested parents,

school administrators and school choice advocates gathered to discuss the

‘hot’ legislation pending in New York and New Jersey that would give

taxpayers a partial tax credit for contributions to scholarship funds. While the

bills fall short of giving parents an outright tax credit for tuition,

it’s a start. By building up these funds, money will be available for

students to attend non-public schools such as yeshivahs.

School Choice AdvocatesIncrease the power of your vote by

becoming a SCHOOL

CHOICE VOTER Leave your name, city

and state atSchoolChoiceNY.org (component/option,com_comprofiler/task,registers/)In July 2007, concerned parents gathered at PS215 on Ave S in Brooklyn,

sponsored by the Sephardic Voter's League. David (Hurdle) Tawil was the

emcee, accompanied by Maurice Hedaya and Ben-Gurion Matsas. The guest

speakers Tim Mulhearn of United New Yorkers for Choice in Education (UNYCE),

Rabbi Israel Teitelbaum of School Choice NJ and Robert Schindler, long- time

school choice advocate and brother of former Mayor Brett Schindler of Jersey

City, NJ, all spoke about the importance of moving this issue forward by

activating a grass roots movement to put pressure on politicians to pass pending

legislation.

Make your Vote count

      America is the land of

opportunity. But not for many millions of minorities living in the

ghettos of our once-great cities. Many of their schools are disaster areas that

are intimidating to both children and teachers alike. When parents come to the

schools and say, Give us just half of what you are now spending, and let

us save our children by placing them into better schools, parents are told

that this is not an option. Take it or leave it. Insanity! What is even more insane is that anyone who tries to

fix all of the above is told by the political mavens that this needs to continue

to play out over the next several decades. It's simply not possible to

re-build Rome in a day. This is, of course, a self fulfilling prophesy.

Welcome to Parents for Free Choice in Education

Thank you for your interest in SCHOOL

CHOICE. The more one learns about this subject, the more one comes to realize

that the time for school choice has come. There is truly no compelling reason to

prevent School Choice from happening, except the strong political opposition

from the education establishment which is bent on preserving their

monopoly.According to former Mayor Bret Schundler of Jersey City, NJ,

this is the only battle which needs to be fought – the political battle.

This particular battle requires voters and voting blocks. Everyone who enlists,

will surely recruit others, for this is the only way we will be able to build

the political base required for achieving choice in

education.

Improve quality of education --

both public and private. Competition in all areas of life has proven to bring

out the best in us.Give parents the right to choose where and how their

children are educated. Education ought to be the domain of parents – not

government.Place responsibility for a child’s education on the

parent. Government should not be replacing parents in their role as educators of

their own children.Distribute education tax dollars more equitably among

all school children. Educational funds should not be denied because of ones

personal or religious beliefs.
